How to Field Prep Your Trophy for Taxidermy
Your perfect mount starts in the field. Here are some tips to allow for the best mount
1. Hold the duck by the feet
2. If still alive, press your knee into the back of the bird on a hard surface
3. Inspect the bird for broken legs and wings
4. Mature birds make the best mounts (versus first year birds)
5. Cool off as soon as possible
6. Tuck head in wing and wrap feet with wet paper towels
7. Fill out carcass tag (name, address, date, cell number, species, and signature) and attach to leg
8. Place in (3) two gallon freezer bags to seal out the air or multiple garbage bags if it's a bigger bird to prevent freezer burn
9. Freeze as soon as possible
10. Delivery options will be discussed at the appropriate time
